Lost Track

June 24th, 2005

When doing some disk clearing / archiving, I discovered an old MP3 format tune I made a couple of years ago. Thought I would put it online, in case anyone is interested.

Sugar Boat, Clyde Estuary

June 23rd, 2005

The “sugar boat” is what I have heard it called. Apparently sunk in the ’60s. It is clearly visible from both sides of the river Clyde, Greenock and Helensburgh, and apparently from space, too.

The Sugar Boat

Since Derek Murray posted about Google Map’s new satellite imagery of Paisley, I found that the inverclyde area is covered as well. Cheers Derek.

Using an xBox controller on a Windows PC

June 23rd, 2005

Flight simulators have always given me a great deal of enjoyment. I really want to begin learning to fly the simulators again - I haven’t flown simulators since before I came to Uni.

I always wanted to build a flight Yoke for the PC, but don’t really know where to start on such a project. My joystick is in mothball at my parents house, in Girvan.

Problem: I don’t have the money to buy a flight controller or joystick.
Solution: xBox controllers have 2 analog sticks, 2 triggers, 8 buttons and a 4-way directional pad.

Oh yes, I’ve heard it’s really a U.S.B. device.

May 27th, 2005

When a time server is more talkative than expected:

I ran across an entry on a wifi interaction project site, that discusses the NTP server, time.nist.gov. It seems to know more than the time.

During the IS3 revision lecture, I took some notes. This post is a summary of those notes.

Disclaimer: They may be completely wrong, I have had to attempt to decipher my handwriting.

Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow

May 3rd, 2005

I frequently move around my virtual desk space, when using DCS Lab computers, or my own computer. It’s second nature to me. I organise my windows, each has it’s place.

So naturally, when using a library Windows 2000 machine, I attempted to switch to an empty workspace… and recieved a blue screen of death for my efforts. Instant and immediate B.S.O.D. and reboot - complete loss of all data since last backup. (KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) - Or something similar.
