At least, partly.

This blog, Virtuality, is now hosted remotely, for the first time.

The transferral was quite an ordeal - but of the kind that I really enjoy. Took 6 Hours. I’m tired now.

When a time server is more talkative than expected

Friday, May 27th, 2005

When a time server is more talkative than expected:

I ran across an entry on a wifi interaction project site, that discusses the NTP server, time.nist.gov. It seems to know more than the time.

Prediction for IS3 2005

Friday, May 20th, 2005

During the IS3 revision lecture, I took some notes. This post is a summary of those notes.

Disclaimer: They may be completely wrong, I have had to attempt to decipher my handwriting.

Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2005

I frequently move around my virtual desk space, when using DCS Lab computers, or my own computer. It’s second nature to me. I organise my windows, each has it’s place.

So naturally, when using a library Windows 2000 machine, I attempted to switch to an empty workspace… and recieved a blue screen of death for my efforts. Instant and immediate B.S.O.D. and reboot - complete loss of all data since last backup. (KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) - Or something similar.

Where’s Kenny?

He’s in the lab.. and the lab’s in the Boyd Orr. Guess that’s not much help. I’ll try again.

Kenny is here. (At least, at the time of writing!)

Offshore and wifi

Thursday, April 7th, 2005

I had not realised that Offshore provide free wifi access. That explains the abundance of laptops that seem to be present in that coffee shop.

I’m writing this post on the ipaq, while I await the arrival of Chao, a friend from university.

How cool.

60mph 1m from the ground…

Sunday, April 3rd, 2005

Yesterday, I flew a microlight over central scotland. Cumbernauld airport (EGPG) to Stirling Castle, and back. The weather was excellent, though a little hazy, about 8km visibility according to glasgow airport ATIS.

Throughout the flight, we performed several exciting manouvers. We buzzed a field close to the ground, throttled the engine back and glided for a minute, and stalled to lose altitude, rapidly!

It was amazing. I want to get my private pilot’s license. Oh, and I was scanning for Wi-Fi access points throughout the flight.

Enabling mod_rewrite for Apache2 in Debian

Wednesday, March 30th, 2005

There’s an excellent web page entitled Debian Administration :: Upgrading from Woody to Sarge: Part 4 - Apache2 that I wish I had seen much sooner. This website states how to add mod_rewrite to an Apache2 installation in Debian.

Now that this has been enabled, I hope that the permalink structure looks a little more pretty than some cold and non-meaningful numbers, though the old permalinks will no longer work. Pretty non-permanent perma-links, but that’s my fault for not having figured out how to enable mod_rewrite on my system sooner.

Ah well, sorry for any inconvenience!

Over and out,
Kenny

Error 404

Friday, March 18th, 2005

“It’s not pretty when a web server cries”, said the lonely web server. This is an exceptionally interesting error 404 page.
