A Library
Friday, October 28th, 2005I just realised,
My ideal house would have to have a library. I have so many books / magazines that I like to keep, I shall need a library.

A Military Headset
Wednesday, October 19th, 2005A Military Headset was aquired from Blochairn market. Quite a nice deal, I have to say.
I’d really like to use it for comms equipment and / or voip chat while playing “Battlefield 2″tm, for a slightly more realistic game.
Blending
Tuesday, July 12th, 2005Pleased.
I have managed to create a cube in Blender, an open source 3D graphics package. I’m taking baby steps with this application at the moment, as I plan to create a DVD of my graduation ceremony with extra pictures and music for all my family that couldn’t make it, and for prosperity as well.

I need nice titles on the DVD; a quick google of blender DVD titles came up with a really interesting page: Blenderwars tutorials - a page of tutorials in Blender, with a star-wars spin.
There is a tutorial on how to recreate the opening titles of Star Wars with blender. I don’t know if I’ll go that far, but the concept should be similar enough to teach me what I need to know for the DVD.
Tiger vs Linux
Monday, April 18th, 2005Exams soon, far too soon. At least it’ll be over.. and it’ll be time to relax for a short while.
I have seen some nice instructions to enable xscreensaver load images from flickr; the script that is pointed to is written in perl. I’d really like to modify this script to allow the images to come from a tag, instead of from a user. (e.g. Screensaver = latest images tagged Glasgow) Ah well, in time maybe.
In other news, Tiger vs Linux - let’s see which will prevail in one-on-one competition : Tiger vs Linux.
Colour, Miscellaneous
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2005I was given a lovely gift last year, a column that contains several independently lit segments. When combined they produce an interesting random sequence of light combinations. Every time I see this column I get this feeling that it could be displaying valuable information….
Radio Thoughts
Monday, March 21st, 2005Sophon bought me an original 1960’s Roberts Radio Ltd R707, a beautiful transistor-based broadcast radio reciever, it’s a real thing of beauty. I just powered it up for the first time, and it sounds excellent!
I’d love to add some exciting hi-technology into the radio, but there are so many posibilities! I can think of several combinations of technologies! For example, the ability to recieve streaming media when in range of an 802.11b access point would be an excellent idea. A bluetooth transciever on-board could enable the radio to present itself as a set of bluetooth headphones, and play audio from the bluetooth device.
I’m not sure that the available bandwidth over a bluetooth link would enable good quality audio throughput.. well, certainly research is required.

Creativity, subversion, gkrellm…
Monday, March 21st, 2005Monitoring progress of a project can provide a fascinating from of motivation. Since using the subversion version control system to keep my source code backed up, I would love to use gkrellm to graph the activity of my repository over time. What does the pattern of my work look like? I’d like to know. At the moment, my C programming is not strong, and it would seem that gkrellm plugins are “shared object files”, which I am assuming must be programmed in C. However, I don’t like to assume, and can’t think of a valid reason why this must be the case, but I simply don’t know. The creation of a gkrellm plugin, in C, that can monitor the activity of a subversion repository would be an excellent project, and provide motivation to become a more competent C programmer.
