Urban Hydrology; A tale of exotic fun in Glasgow
When told about the Rat Race urban adventure race, the only rational thing to do seemed to be to get a team together.
An urban adventure race which consists of rock climbing, absailling, kayaking, running, cycling and some more rather weird and wonderful events like “Free Running”.
A team was mostly found, consisting of myself, Dan and possibly Helen, one of Soph’s friends.
In discussion with Dan, it seemed that suitable training for this unusual event would be hard to come by. So, when I noticed a paddle poking out from an old plastic bag full of cobwebs in a charity shop, I got rather excited.
One purchase, and a lot of pumping later, I found myself with a fully inflated dingy / rowing boat in my kitchen.
Dan popped over for a little pre-Rat Race planning and one drink led to a possible training exercise with the boat.
Indeed Kelvingrove park has never seemed such an exciting place. We were extremely edgy - assuming that some park rangers were going to notice us, since we were rather conspicuous (with a large boat).
So, we put to sea (actually, to Duck Pond), and navigated two circuits of the course (the Kelvingrove Park Duck Pond), with each of us at the helm for one circuit.
To facilitate the drying of the vehicle, once we disembarked it seemed a good idea to take the boat to The Goat, a pub on Dumbarton Road, such we can sit outside and let the boat dry off, with a pint or two in hand.
This plan was executed most successfully with bravado, skill and ninja-style by both participants.
Bring on the Rat Race!

Dude!
That’s the most awesome news, I’ll see you there! I can’t believe you bought a boat too, that’s ace! You fair don’t do things by half.
Good job, and good luck, see you soon!
