Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow

I frequently move around my virtual desk space, when using DCS Lab computers, or my own computer. It’s second nature to me. I organise my windows, each has it’s place.

So naturally, when using a library Windows 2000 machine, I attempted to switch to an empty workspace… and recieved a blue screen of death for my efforts. Instant and immediate B.S.O.D. and reboot - complete loss of all data since last backup. (KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) - Or something similar.

It was the key-combination Ctrl + Alt + Down Arrow, in the glasgow university library - while an instance of Internet Explorer (6.02800.1106SCO) is open that seemed to command the machine to perform an instant reboot.

Since most users of library machines have internet explorer open, I’d be surprised if this doesn’t annoy more people. I wonder what the probability of a “regular” user of the university library pressing that key sequence is….

I tried this on the machines in the round reading rooms today - works every time even when IE aint running (even tho it technically is with the active desktop). Is an unknown kernel mode trap.

Aha! Nice one Mr Eggy; I always kill the active desktop application.. which is why I have only ever been affected when running I.E. :)
